EOS North America Works to Close the Industrial 3D Printing Educational Gap with New Metro-Detroit Training Center

Expanded state-of-the-art Additive Minds Academy Center part of $500,000 investment in additive manufacturing workforce development

____ Novi, Michigan, May 28, 2024

EOS, a global leader of additive manufacturing (AM) solutions for industrial 3D printing, today announced the launch of its 14,600 square feet Additive Minds Academy Center. The training facility is focused on industrial 3D printing enablement, technical training and customer success.

Additive Minds Academy, the training arm of EOS’ Additive Minds applied engineering team, is designed for training and upskilling industrial 3D printing engineers and operators through in-person and online courses. Located in Novi, Michigan, the new in-person academy training facility provides an educational hub for both experienced AM users and those new to the technology. By supplying both hands-on and classroom learning experiences, the training center augments EOS’ continued commitment to customer support and industry development.

“We have long recognized the need to look beyond the scope of AM technology acquisition. To grow our industry and AM adoption, education must keep pace, and building a strong workforce to support the burgeoning, transformational technology is essential. We are committed to both the enablement of our customers and to the successful education of all those exploring powder-bed AM.”

Glynn Fletcher, EOS North America president

Supporting the new Additive Minds Academy Center are AM educators and experts who have completed more than 1,000 successful customer projects spanning the past five years; positioning the academy as an educational cornerstone for industrial 3D printing enablement. The Additive Minds Academy Center is staffed with veteran EOS engineers, consultants and technicians who bring a breadth of AM knowledge and a passion for imparting their experience in the manufacturing space.

“Whether training customers or new AM system operators, I often use the technical knowledge and experience I gained from my years as an AM field service engineer. My time spent working side by side with in-house customer engineering teams has given me unique insight into what operators need to know to be successful and how to train a self-sufficient AM production team.”

Julio Mejia-Andino, AM academy instructor

EOS is also collaborating with metro Detroit-based Automation Alley by offering training opportunities to its Project DIAMOnD 3D printing network. Funded through Oakland County, Project DIAMOnD has already successfully connected and empowered more than 300 small- and medium-sized Michigan manufacturers by providing them with state-of-the-art 3D printers.

“Through our partnership with EOS, Project DIAMOnD participating companies will be able to leverage EOS' expertise in both metal and polymer AM and will receive guidance on optimizing their designs for 3D printing. We look forward to partnering with EOS to help our small- and medium-sized manufacturers fully embrace additive manufacturing.”

Pavan Muzumdar, COO of Automation Alley and CEO of Project DIAMOnD

The Additive Minds Academy Center focuses on both basic and advanced AM system operation and maintenance trainings, ASTM certifications, engineering workshops and custom training programs in its first year of course offerings, with additional trainings to be added in the future.

Additive Minds Academy Center in-person trainings and certifications available now:

  • ASTM Operator Certification for EOS M 290 and EOS M 400 / EOS M 400-4
